It’s kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object that will enable the Sith to conquer the galaxy.

Agreed, Thanks for the upload but you’re making it hard on yourself and us peers. Actually, 16kbps is plenty for audio books. 32 is High Fidelity CD quality in the realms of human speech. And when was that last time someone talked to you with two mouths?
Stereo was invented so you had the simulation of “being” in front of the band. That is; singer in the center, musicians on the left and right. You don’t need that for narration. Your ears naturally hear in stereo. I don’t want you to think we are ungrateful for your share, we are. Please, share responsibly.
“FreeMake Audio Converter” is freeware and converts all audio files to other formats. It can lower bit rate, channels, etc and is easy to use.
When I convert Audible files, I add the 32k Audible mp3 file out to my sansa player then record it to mo hard drive through the mic input on the laptop. I use “Audacity” for that. It takes time but I don’t inflate and deflate the file. Which is bad for quality.
I hope that enlightens you and other wanting to share. - nunya -

Thank god someone knows what their talking about! Thanks nunyabizz! BUT I would ask why you don’t use dBpoweramp to rip the LEVEL-4 .aa (32k/22050hz) audible files? I have ripped over 1500 different .aa files in the last two years (buy A LOT OF audiobooks) and never had a problem. No inflating or deflating the files, and you end up with an EXACT copy of the .aa file in MP3 form, file size and all. Plus each file takes around 3-4 minutes for a 7-hour track to convert. Def check it out!
I wrote a simple tutorial and even a package with everything needed to convert the files with dBpoweramp if anyone wants it just reply below and I will post it!

First, uploader. THANKS!
@nunyabizznizz, No. No. No. No. NO, all of my NO.
16k is unwarranted for anything. 32k MP3 is physically painful. The artifacts create a painful crunching noise, and it all comes out worse on either extreme of equipment quality. Some of us actually like and can appreciate the quality of a narrator’s voice, and damn it, 16 and 32k actually make it harder to understand some things. They both sound absolutely terrible. I appreciate your sense of efficiency, but there is much lost by continuing to do things like we did in 1999. I applaud this uploader for uploading in good quality. As for stereo, I would agree, except here it’s not relevant (unless the uploader didn’t use joint stereo) because Star Wars audio books have score compliment, which benefits from stereo when it’s needed- and joint stereo doesn’t use up all that space when the streams are identical. And really there are still bad MP3 encoders floating around, so no one should be using MP3 at all, because of the terrible encoders still in use and it’s half as efficient as any modern codec (aac, wma, even vorbis or atrac3plus, not that I would ever recommend the latter.) Also, the Star Wars and other books often have engine noises and sound effects which sound like static when badly compressed. Very unpleasant, often painful, and probably harmful. So please, consider that other people have more sensitive ears than you and stop encouraging internet coping strategies from 20 years ago. Please, just listen to an uncompressed file or CD, then listen to the same in 32k. I’m not an audiophile, but artifacts are still very noticeable in every second of audio even at 64kMP3, and actual nearly transparent compression is like floating in a stream in the summer after suffering through heavily compressed transcoded files.

People moaning about something there getting for free wtf, its like commenting on someone giving away free money and moaning coz the denominations are to large, stop moaning or upload your own smaller file you pointless people.

Bullshit JC, you know nothing about audiobooks clearly. There is NO musical score in this audiobook, while SOME Star Wars books do, these do not. Maybe a 20 intro at the begining but nothing else. If you think you can pick up artifacts in a MONO SPOKEN WORD recording at 64kb (talking straight rip of a Audible “Enhanced” levl .aax file)then you are hearing things, and its def not the audiobook. Go do some studies/search real quick about SPOKEN WORD levels in audio, then you would know that even VERY HIGH female SPOKEN WORD voices actually register lower than in the 24000hz sample rate range(the proper sample rate for a 64k rip). And that is for a VERY HIGH female narration. For basic male voices a 32k rip is just PERFECT. ANything more is just overkill. There is a reason Amazon/Audible (the biggest audiobook retailer/producer in the world btw) has chose 64k or 32k as its HIGHEST available rips. In mono I might add. BEcause they know what you clearly do not.
IF you are hearing artifacts in a 64k rip (no upconverting done by the ripper) then clearly the converter did something wrong. Sure a original source file that was 16k THEN UPCONVERTED to 64kb is going to have artifacts, because you cannot get better sound from something not there to begin with. Thats like taking a VHS tape and making it 1080p. But a good rip at 64kbps or 32kbps is PERFECT for an audiobook. MAYBE…MAYBE 128kbps for a graphic audiobook with soundeffects, multiple narrator, music, etc, but thats almost pushing it. The Graphic Audio downloads from their website are still even at 64kb.
JC, I know what good encoders, rippers, and converters are that do NOT cause artifacts and bad problems with audio. Virtual CD does perfect CD rips (true ripping, no shortcuts) and dBPoweramp does perfect audible conversions, or any conversion to be honest. AND they are all free.
Yes Toby we can bitch about free stuff, because if someone is going to post something they can learn to do it right. I damn sure did…I have ripped over 300 audible books and posted them at various sites, with ZERO complaints problems, etc, bc I do it right; whilke saving everyones hearing, bandwith, time, and hard drive space all at the same time!
JC must be high if he really thinks a 4gb audiobook at 256kbps bitrate with no sound effects or music should be appreciated. HE upconverted from the original source files either way, which makes the sound worse, as even if it was a CD RIP most rippers convert at 128k anyways….peace

Bobby Jon
geez, you must be really deaf if you can’t hear the difference between 320/44100 and 32k/22050hz! or you must be listening to audio on some cheapest taiwan-made gadget they’ve ever made!
if you care about space on your hard drive, no one forbids you from converting files by yourself to any bitrate you want, but please don’t try to force your opinion on everyone else here.

Free it is. Must not; you complain. Force, brought you here it has, to spread joy not fear.
